Bourne & Hollingsworth Buildings, London, England

I am always on the hunt for cute cafés and brunch spots in London. For me it's as much about the interiors and ambiance as it is about the food and so I was delighted to discover Bourne & Hollingsworth Buildings on a recent trip to Clerkenwell. Do not let the dark industrial exterior fool you - inside you will discover whitewashed floors, shabby chic furniture and plenty of greenery.

I love the mix of tropical prints and mismatched chairs used throughout. It would be the perfect setting for an Alice in Wonderland style tea party as it has just the right amount of whimsy. They offer a classic brunch menu and each dish is beautifully presented. The cocktail list is impressive and my French 75 came with a pretty floral garnish. Predictable as ever, I opted for the crushed avocado and roasted tomato on toasted sourdough which was delicious ... but I definitely had food envy when the fiancé's drop scones with bacon and maple syrup arrived. I hadn't realised that drop scones are basically warm fluffy pancakes - comfort food at it's finest!

Bourne & Hollingsworth Buildings don't just offer brunch, you can also visit for dinner or just stop by for one of their delectable cocktails in the beautiful bar area. It's also the perfect location for a birthday dinner - there is a private dining room just off the bar area that's beautifully decorated and ideal for any celebratory event with your nearest and dearest.

It wasn't an ideal day for outdoor photography so I will sign this post off with a photo from the fiancé's archives - an epic shot of the City of London skyline just east of Clerkenwell.
