Anantara Layan Phuket, Thailand

It's a wet and windy March weekend and I wish I was back sunning myself at the Anantara Layan resort in Phuket. We spent a blissful week there in mid-November last year and I never quite got around to posting about our wonderful experience. Anantara Layan Phuket is a five star luxury resort tucked away on a secluded beach on the fringes of Sirinath National Park. Every aspect of our stay was pure luxury, from the beautifully decorated rooms to the mouth-wateringly delicious food. My only regret is not taking more photos - I blame this on my being in a highly relaxed state for the duration of the trip. The photos of the rooms and villas that are posted on the Anantara Layan website are very true to life and you can check them out here: Anantara Layan Phuket.

One of the best features of this resort, in my opinion, is the luxury spa. It is located just a short walk from the villas and nestled into the hillside away from the main resort area. The spa itself is beautiful, all hardwood floors and spacious treatment rooms and the staff are so friendly and welcoming, offering complimentary tea and warm cloths on arrival. I opted for the stress release massage and I can honestly say that it was one of the best massages I have ever had. You can book your treatments before you travel and I highly recommend that you do - believe me, you do not want to miss out on the Anantara Layan spa experience!

I am that person who has the best intentions of getting up early for breakfast when on holiday but usually fail miserably and sleep right through. I did not miss a single breakfast during my stay! Breakfast here is on another level! Where do I even begin, there is every kind of juice you can imagine and bottles of prosecco for you to mix up your own mimosa or bellini. There is a cereal bar, a hot food bar, an omelette station, a pancake and waffles station ... there's fresh fruit, yoghurts, croissants and quiches and for all you cheese lovers out there, they have a cheese room - yes, an entire room of cheese and charcuterie! I was too busy feasting on this banquet each morning to take my camera out and get some proper shots but I did take some instavids which I have saved in my Instagram highlights on @theglamasutra. Dinner in the Dee Plee restaurant did not disappoint either and I did manage to get some shots of their delicious and beautifully presented dishes.

I've been to many resorts before where the images online didn't quite match up to the reality. I was delighted to discover that this is not the case with Anantara Layan. The setting can truly be described as paradise and the reality more than lived up to, if not surpassed my expectations. The infinity pool is where we spent most of our time and we never once had an issue getting a sun lounger (the definition of luxury for anyone who has ever been on a package holiday!). The service is top notch, you are provided with complimentary towels and water on arrival, and the pièce de résistance is the little button that they leave with you so that you can buzz for food or drinks without ever having to leave the comfort of your sun lounger.

If you prefer to do your sun worshiping at the beach rather than pool-side then you are in luck. The infinity pool leads right on to a private beach with epic views out to the Andaman Sea. This is where we spent our evenings, cocktail in hand, sitting on beanbags near the shore, transfixed by the spectacular sunsets. Honestly, words cannot describe how stunning the sunsets are here ... so let me finish with one of the fiancé's awesome shots of the fiery sunsets!
